My first day interning at Positano News was anything but ordinary. First, I was introduced to the power and knowledge behind the online newspaper, then I was made aware of the ongoing trash build up here in Sorrento.

Before arriving here in Sorrento, I solely relied on pictures I found online. The images I found were breath-taking and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.

Something the images don’t tell you is the amount of trash scattered amongst the surface of Le Tore, Sorrento. Michele, who is the Director of Positano News informed me of the dilemma this has grown to be and yet, no changes have been made.

Tammie Smith, Cat Goodwin, Steff Done, Dec Hughes, Stephen Woods from England, and Aisling Reid from Ireland- are a part of an organization called Tui Smiles that hopes to create a green environment world-wide.

This group that we were able to talk to was just one out of the five groups working toward the same goal: a clean environment that Sorrento deserves. The people of Tui Smiles were filled with uplifting spirits while sharing contagious smiles as they worked to make Le Tore a cleaner place for all.

This was the first time I have been introduced to Le Tore, Sorrento and Tui Smiles, overall it was a great first day- but more importantly be aware of where you put your trash.
