The festival was always held on the last Saturday of September, and it became a highlight of the summer season in Positano, Amalfi Coast costiera amalfitana , a symbolic farewell to the summer and a salute to our guests. It featured traditional music and our local seafood specialities: totani e patate, frittura di paranza, tubetti e totani (stewed cuttlefish with potatoes, crunchy fried fish, pasta with cuttlefish sauce).
In 1991, the festival was suspended because of a need for re-organization and renewed energy. It remained only a memory for 14 years. It wasn’t until 2005 that the 16th Fish Festival was to bring the entire town together to make this the liveliest summer’s-end event on the Amalfi Coast. The most important aspect of the new version of the festival is its link with a good cause — lending support to several local non-profit organizations.
The entire proceeds of the festival are distributed among these associations, and primarily to the Positano Volunteers, who back up the local Italian Red Cross group, which has a vital role in responding to health emergencies in the area. This year, our fund-raising campaign gets off to an early start with the sale of T-shirts decorated with the colorful festival logo. The T-shirts advertise the event and are also a source of revenue for the festival.
We are certain that the generosity of the people of Positano and our guests will help make this festival a very special occasion.
