MSC FANTASIA A LISBONA FERMA PER CONTROLLI AL CORONAVIRUS COVID 19, ANCORA QUALCHE GIORNO PER VENIRE A SORRENTO

LISBONA (Reuters) - Le autorità portoghesi hanno avviato il processo di test e rimpatrio del coronavirus per 1.338 passeggeri a bordo di una nave da crociera in rotta dal Brasile, attraccata a Lisbona domenica dopo la cancellazione degli altri suoi scali europei.

Il ministero degli interni ha affermato che i passeggeri della MSC Fantasia, per lo più provenienti dall'Unione Europea, dalla Gran Bretagna, dal Brasile e dall'Australia, rimarrebbero a bordo fino a quando tutti non saranno stati sottoposti a test per il virus, dopodiché a coloro che sono risultati negativi sarà permesso di sbarcare.


Ha riferito che le autorità portoghesi, che mercoledì hanno imposto uno stato di emergenza sulla pandemia con restrizioni alla circolazione delle persone, stanno coordinando gli sforzi di rimpatrio con le ambasciate di vari paesi.

Ci sono 27 cittadini portoghesi e alcuni con permessi di residenza che saranno testati domenica pomeriggio. Finora non sono stati segnalati casi sospetti sulla nave, che ha lasciato Rio de Janeiro il 9 marzo, secondo l'autorità portuale di Lisbona.


"A partire da martedì ... dopo la verifica da parte dell'autorità sanitaria, il resto dei passeggeri sbarcherà e sarà scortato all'aeroporto di Humberto Delgado per imbarcarsi su voli umanitari verso i loro paesi di origine", ha detto il ministero.

Domenica il ministro degli Esteri britannico Dominic Raab ha twittato di aver discusso del rimpatrio dei britannici dalla MSC Fantasia con il suo omologo portoghese Augusto Santos Silva.

La destinazione finale della nave, che può trasportare 4.363 passeggeri e 1.370 membri dell'equipaggio, era stata Genova in Italia, che è il paese più colpito d'Europa dal virus.

"Non c'è corona qui, la corona è laggiù", ha gridato un passeggero in portoghese con un accento brasiliano dal ponte della nave ormeggiata.

Il Portogallo ha segnalato 1.600 casi di virus e 14 morti, molto al di sotto delle decine di migliaia di casi in Italia e Spagna, i due paesi europei più colpiti.

Dopo aver raddoppiato sabato a 12, il bilancio delle vittime è aumentato solo leggermente durante la notte, ma il numero di infezioni è aumentato di un quarto, ha detto l'autorità sanitaria DGS.

Il ministro della Sanità Marta Temido ha affermato che l'epidemia dovrebbe raggiungere il picco solo in Portogallo intorno al 14 aprile.

LISBON (Reuters) – Portuguese authorities began the coronavirus testing and repatriation process for 1,338 passengers aboard a cruise ship en route from Brazil that docked in Lisbon on Sunday after its other European stopovers were canceled.

The interior ministry said passengers of the MSC Fantasia, mostly from the European Union, Britain, Brazil and Australia, would stay on board until all had been tested for the virus, after which those who tested negative would be allowed to disembark.

It said authorities in Portugal, which imposed a state of emergency over the pandemic on Wednesday with restrictions on the movement of people, were coordinating the repatriation efforts with embassies of various countries.

There are 27 Portuguese citizens and some with residency permits who will be tested on Sunday afternoon. No suspected cases have been reported so far on the ship, which left Rio de Janeiro on March 9, according to the Lisbon port authority.

“Beginning on Tuesday … after verification by the health authority, the rest of the passengers will disembark and will be escorted to the Humberto Delgado airport to board humanitarian flights to their home countries,” the ministry said.

British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab tweeted on Sunday he had discussed the repatriation of Britons from the MSC Fantasia with his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva.

The final destination of the ship, which can carry 4,363 passengers and 1,370 crew, had been Genoa in Italy, which is Europe’s worst-hit country by the virus.

“There is no corona here, the corona is over there,” a passenger shouted in Portuguese with a Brazilian accent from the deck of the moored ship.

Portugal has reported 1,600 cases of the virus and 14 deaths, far below the tens of thousands of cases in Italy and Spain – the two worst-hit European countries.

After doubling on Saturday to 12, the death toll increased only slightly overnight, but the number of infections rose by a quarter, the health authority DGS said.

Health Minister Marta Temido has said the epidemic is only expected to peak in Portugal around April 14.
